Welcome.

I am so glad you are here.

It takes tremendous courage to seek professional help, and you are taking the first step toward your journey of recovery and healing.

Choosing a therapist is a very important and personal decision.

It takes courage and tenacity to approach this process. Here are some considerations as you look for the right counselor to partner with on this journey.

Some criteria to consider:

  • What types of clients and situations does the therapist work with in his or her practice?

Therapists treat a variety of issues. Look for some of their areas of specialty and see if the themes resonate for you. Be sure to find the one that is right for your individual needs.

  • Are they licensed and are they a member of any accredited professional organizations?

Have they completed their education and training from a quality program? Have they pursued continued development in meaningful ways?

  • Is the clinician a good fit for you?

This is perhaps the most important criteria to consider.

-When you had an initial consultation or phone call with the therapist, did you feel heard?

    -Did you feel comfortable?

-Would you feel at ease sharing with this person?

-Are the logistics a match for you? (Location, online options, fees/how insurance is handled in or out of network, cancellation policies, hours of operation)

The goodness of fit between therapist and client truly matters!

  • You need to feel truly comfortable in the counseling relationship to make the most significant progress. I encourage you to work with someone with whom you feel a connection and a sense of safety, trust, and security. When this type of trusting counseling relationship exists, this is the launching place for real progress and healing to begin.
